Built by Colonel John Davis on approximately 115 acres, the club was organized in 1969. Soon afterwards, nine local men formed a Corporation known as the Blue Springs Country Club, Inc. and purchased the facility with a membership of approximately 400 members in 1972. These nine owners agreed to reorganize and transfer all assets and indebtedness to this new Corporation on May 1, 1975. The number of stockholders was reduced from nine to five sometime in the summer of 1979.

In November of 1983, a committee of members was formed to pursue purchasing the Country Club after discovering that a developer had entered into negotiations to purchase the land, with intentions of developing home sites on the property. In little more than 14 days, this committee was successful in raising $1,200,000 to match the developer’s offer. The Club’s membership became the new owners of the facility.

On December 7, 1983, Articles of Incorporation were filed with the State of Missouri. The name was officially changed to Country Club of Blue Springs, Inc. Shortly thereafter, elections were held with eleven members being named to the Board of Directors.

During the decade of the 80’s, extensions were added to the clubhouse on both the north and south ends. The old back porch was converted from informal dining into a lounge and the Pro Shop was moved to create the 19th Hole Snack Bar. In 1987, Bill Love of Alt, Clark, and Associates was hired to determine changes needed to the course to add character to the layout. As a result, new tees and bunkers were added to #6 & #7, fairway and greenside bunkers were added to #18, and the practice area was remodeled to become a driving range.

A shaded, open-air deck was added to the lounge in 1989. In 1990 a fairway irrigation system was installed and a new irrigation lake was constructed between #12 and #17, to support the system. Dirt from this project was used on #2, #3, #8, #11, #13, #14, #15, and #17 to add mounds and continue to develop character as recommended by the consultants in 1987. In 1992 the Board of Directors decided to start a conversion from Kentucky Bluegrass and Rye fairways to Zoysia fairways, to be accomplished over a period of years. After the Midwest floods of 1993, the membership realized the need to expedite the process of constructing continuous cart paths, which began in 1992. These paths were desperately needed to help make the course more accessible to the membership during wet periods of the year.

In the fall of 1996 and the spring of 1997, the Board realized the growing need to upgrade the existing Clubhouse, Pro Shop, Course Maintenance and Swimming Pool facilities. The membership approved a capital improvement dues increase to help finance these projects. Today the membership enjoys a new Golf Operations Building, Turf Care Complex, and the expansion of the upstairs Lounge. Additional renovations included the remodeled Ladies locker room, 19th Hole and Banquet Room. The existing swimming pool was torn out to make room for the new, 12 lane, Olympic sized pooi to help enhance the enjoyment of all members, both golf and social. As part of the over-all construction project, an addition was added to the Men’s locker room, which includes new restroom and shower facilities. In April of 1998, a group of members volunteered their time to construct a 2m1 deck off the lounge for added space for evening diners and members after they finish their rounds of golf. The Men’s Golf Association completed the purchase of four lake fountains in the fall of 1999.

Throughout the history of the club, there have been eight golf professionals in charge of the golf operations, including Leonard Dotson, Pat McMurphy, John Kelly, Paul Weiler, Allen Lucht, Brian Maloney, Mike Peters, and Rick Holtcamp. In the spring of 1999, Jason Snyder was hired to replace Jon Francis as the Golf Course Superintendent. Mr. Snyder quickly developed a 5-year plan designed to modernize the golf course and improve tee, fairway, and green conditions for the membership. The turf staff has completed the conversion from Bluegrass to Zoysia chipping areas, rebuilt and converted to Zoysia multiple tees, and developed safe practice programs that allowed the Country Club of Blue Springs to become a recognized National Audubon Society facility. James Goodrich has since been hired to replace Jason Snyder and has overseen the complete reconstruction of the golf course, a two year project, approved by membership vote. This ominous project covered two years, from early 2002 through late 2003. We now enjoy a fresh new look and feel, and judging by the many compliments received, we now have one of the best courses in the surrounding area.

As we look into the future, we may all wonder what lies ahead for this member owned, private Country Club. Looking back, we are positive that the Club House and Golf Course has come a long way since 1969. Many members have volunteered countless hours to help with improvement projects. Under the direction of the current and future Board of Directors, with guidance from our General Manager, Eddie Johnston, we are positive the future is bright at the Country Club of Blue Springs and the existing membership will continue the goal of making this facility one of the finest in Eastern Jackson County
